Mountain biking and bicycling Northwest Montana

When you bicycle along country roads or peaceful trails, you�re free to travel at your own pace, enjoying the beauty of the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park. You can pedal fast or slowly, climb hills and coast down, and stop to admire the scenery, picnic or take photos.

Whether you want to ride for an hour or stretch your trip into an all-day tour, you�ll find a range of scenic bike trips suitable for you and your family.

• National Forest roads often climb through beautiful forested areas. Many of these roads lead to trailheads where you can continue your ride. Check local bike shops or outdoor recreation stores for maps and advice.
• The Rails to Trails system offers paved trails around the Flathead Valley. Click here to download maps of existing and planned future trails.
• Southwest of Kalispell, Lone Pine State Park has excellent biking trails leading to scenic overlooks. For a longer mountain trek, spin past Foy�s Lake to Herron County Park, where you can ride to Blacktail Mountain on the Foys to Blacktail Trails.

• Check out biking trails on Whitefish Mountain Resort. Take your bike to the summit on the chairlift and coast down, or ride to the top for a real workout. You can rent a bike or scooter at the resort.
• Mountain bikers will want to check out a new book, �Montana Singletrack: The Mountain Biker�s Guide to Montana� by Will Robertson, available at bookstores and bike shops. This full-color guidebook offers detailed trail descriptions, topographic maps, directions to trailheads, and recommended skill levels for each ride. The five rides suggested in the Flathead Valley vary from 4.5 to 20 miles.
